Support for Applications, Networks and Communications
Provided first-level support (for 2 years) and second-level
support (for 2 years), for PC applications in a regional bank's
branches and head office. Worked with users and other people
in the organization to troubleshoot and resolve problems. This
required some visits to branches and head office departments.
Supported a Gas Plant Management System operating at a
major gas plant in Alberta. Frequent contact with plant staff.
Most support was done remotely using pcAnywhere IV.
Managed personal computers used by the Electrical Engineering
group in the Canadian head office of a multinational
petroleum company.
- Updated programs.
- Worked with suppliers and company IT staff.
- Provided informal training on unique Engineering programs
and network software.
- Installed a LANtastic network to connect these computers.
- Computers were also connected to the company's mainframes.
Supported a Pump Repair Information System operating in the
heavy oil field of a multinational company.
- Frequent visits and phone calls with company staff and
with two local suppliers of services who were
running subsets of the programs.
- Installed a computer upgrade for one of the suppliers.
- Frequent visits and phone calls with the Head Office
technologist responsible for pump quality assurance
throughout the company.
Supported 4 retailers using a point-of-sale and
accounting program, including supplying and installing software
and hardware upgrades. 3 of these retailers are running LANtastic
networks with 2 to 4 computers.
Supported an Operations Reporting System for a market-leading
well service company.
- Frequent visits with Head Office staff, who ran the program
on a 2-computer LANtastic network which Gibson Information
Systems supplied and installed.
- Less frequent phone consultations with staff at District
Offices in other cities, who sent information to Head Office
via phone lines, using automated procedures within the
programs developed by Gibson Information Systems.
Training
- Trained cement plant staff in use of Kronos Client/Server
software, including 5 one-day sessions and individual
follow-up training where needed.
- Trained new members of a regional bank's Branch Systems Group,
and Help Desk staff at 2 outsourcing companies.
- Developed and presented courses to accounting staff at a major
gas plant in Alberta, on a Gas Plant Management System
developed for them.
- Developed and presented introductory and more detailed courses
on a relational data base package to 2 petroleum companies.
- Developed and presented an 18-hour Introduction to Computers
course for the Further Education department of a school board.
- Developed and taught courses on a financial modeling package
and a mainframe computer operating system for a
Canadian petroleum company.
